Have you ever wondered what your clothes – γυναικεία ρούχα -say about you and, above all, about your age? We are talking, mainly, about the essential concept of age, that is, that which is determined by mood, interests and personality and not only by biology.
That is why reducing your age by 10, 15 or more years can become an easy task if you look at your wardrobe with a different eye.
We have gathered below 11 stylistic mistakes that make us grow and that, knowing them, will renew you immediately.
The stylistic mistakes that make us grow up:
1. Retro clothes
Vintage style is back in fashion and if you are somewhere in your 20s you can adopt it without fear even in a total look. Otherwise, maybe your favorite retro clothes make you grow when you combine many together in the same look. Try, instead, to combine a retro piece with other modern ones for a fresh look that cuts you years instead of making you look like you are “stuck” in an era.
2. Conservative clothing
There is a huge difference between creating a personal style with consistency and consistency and stuck in a boring wardrobe full of “basics” in a neutral palette. Beige, gray, black and dark blue can be classic and “safe” colors, but they have too much power to bog down your entire wardrobe. Alternatively choose pieces that belong to the neutral palette but have an interesting texture and design (a special fabric, design or decor is welcome). Also, enrich your wardrobe with pieces in bolder colors but more basic design, in order to keep a balance.
3. The “boring” shoes
Yes, I imagine that your comfortable moccasins are the best for those days when you do not have time and a lot to sit, but there are definitely other shoes out there that can give a little excitement to your style but also provide you with the comfort you need. Think color, textures (snakeskin, ponyskin, lace and suede will change your favorite shoe style), low or thick heels for comfort and, of course, modern sneakers!
4. The wrong underwear
Whack the wrong underwear! If the line is visible from your underwear, if your bra does not provide you with support, if the straps tighten you too much and if, in general, they do not make you feel great, then you have no reason to keep them in your closet! Choose seamless underwear and soft fabrics and ask a saleswoman for help in choosing the right number and style of bra. You will be surprised with how different your body will look but also with how beautiful you will feel!
5. Sticking to old trends
It is one thing to love retro clothes, another to stick to trends that have been irreversibly overcome. Even if you do not intend to follow the fashion trends, make sure you are informed about them and frequently renew the basic pieces of your wardrobe (jackets, jeans, skirts, shoes, etc.) with those that have more modern details.
6. The loose clothes
Boxy, square silhouettes and oversized clothes rarely flatter. On the contrary, the older you get, the more need there is for well-fitting clothes, which fit your body perfectly and highlight it instead of hiding it. Of course we are not talking about very tight dresses and leggings but about tailored pants and skirts, A-line dresses, shirts and jackets.
7. Purchases from youth stores
I understand that logic can say that shopping from shops where teenagers shop will make your outfit more youthful, but in this case you achieve the exact opposite. Stay safe from anything a school-age girl can wear and invest in more “adult” trendy pieces that avoid exaggeration. Choose a mini skirt that ends just above the knee instead of its hot mini version and a soft knitted leggings along with a very long sweater instead of one made of leatherette.
8. The many rhinestones and the statement jewelry
You do not need that jeans with the rhinestones in the pockets, nor that T-shirt with the stones on the collar and of course, you do not want to wear the overalls with the rhinestones … you know where. Instead, choose delicate jewelry that you can wear 2-3 together and keep your most impressive pieces for really formal occasions.
9. Minimal or zero accessories
In contrast to the previous tip, avoid wearing any jewelry or accessories as it gives the impression that you are probably bored. 1-2 selected jewelry, a scarf or a belt will complete your look and will make it more interesting and youthful at the moment.
10. The pastel colors
Not all of them! And not in all cases. The trick is to be able to understand which shades look pale and distressed and to exchange them with other, deeper and darker ones that look even more classy. The shades of gems are a perfect choice for rich casual knits and evening clothes while the pure neutral shades will give your pastels more dynamism and will “save” the look.
11. Sports clothes outside the gym
Sneakers, overalls and fleece cardigans belong only to the gym! If you wear them anywhere else, they indicate that you probably did not try hard for your look, something that “grows” you unconsciously.
